News: National Nuclear Security Administration Internships |

A separately organized agency within the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) manages and secures the nation's nuclear weapons; prevents nuclear terrorism; and responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the U.S. and abroad.
NNSA is responsible for:
Management and security of the nation's nuclear weapons;
Providing safe and secure transportation of nuclear weapons and components and special nuclear materials;
Preventing nuclear terrorism and weapons of mass destruction;
Developing and managing nuclear nonproliferation treaties;
Responding to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the United States and abroad;
Transforming NNSA from a nuclear weapons focus to national security enterprise.
NNSA is working to provide undergraduate students and master's students with challenging, hands-on, educational internship opportunities in a federal laboratory or office.
INTERNSHIP LOCATIONS
Washington D.C., Texas, New Mexico, California, Nevada, and Tennessee.
INTERNSHIP CYCLES
Internships are offered year-round as follows:
Summer: 10 Weeks June - August DEADLINE: Feb 6.
Fall: 15 Weeks Sept - Dec DEADLINE: June 15
Spring: 15 Weeks Jan - April DEADLINE: TBD
*Fall and spring positions should be discussed with the student's college/university to receive credit through their co-op program before applying.
STIPENDS
$6,000 Undergraduate - Summer
$9,000 Undergraduate - Spring/Fall
$7,200 Graduate - Summer
$10,800 Graduate - Spring/Fall
*In addition to the above stipend amount, students also receive a travel allowance.
ELIGIBILITY
Member of MAES, SACNAS or SHPE
U.S. Citizen
Minimum 3.0 GPA undergraduate; Minimum 3.25 GPA graduate
Full-time student (12 hrs. undergraduate; 9 hrs graduate)
Attending an accredited college/university in the United States or Puerto Rico
Pursuing a degree in science, engineering, technology or math
