In the FIRST Robotics Competition, teams of high school students design, assemble, and test a robot capable of performing a specified task in competition with other teams. Learn More FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is a non-profit organization that sponsors different competitions for students ages 9-18. The FIRST mission is to transform culture by making science, math, engineering, and technology as cool for kids as sports are today. The FIRST Robotic Competition is the high school component that pairs professionals and/or college students with a high school to build a robot to be used in a competitive game environment. Each team only has six weeks from the day that the robot kit is delivered to the day when the completed. www.usfirst.org MAES currently has 5 High School Robotic Teams; two in Southern California, one in Northern California, one in Houston, and one in Albuquerque. For 2007 the building part of the competition starts January 8th and ends February 20th.
